Wi-Fi and Delicensing of 6 GHz- Banner

About Wi-Fi & Delicensing of 6 GHZ

Robust Broadband connectivity is the underlying backbone for Digital Connectivity. The only highway during the pandemic that was fully loaded and was running at overloaded capacity was the ‘Information Highway’ or the ‘Digital Highway’. This highway was built using Digital Infrastructure.

Availability of Unlicensed Spectrum assumes significant importance as this would help promote next generation Wi-Fi technologies which can proliferate Wi-Fi and usher in Wi-Fi 6, the next generation of Wi-Fi, which is likely to play a major role in the growth of the Internet of Things. Wi-Fi 6 will be many times faster than the current Wi-Fi standard and will offer better performance for every MHz of spectrum. Opening the 6GHz band for unlicensed use will also increase the amount of spectrum available for Wi-Fi by nearly a factor of five and help improve rural broadband connectivity, besides enabling mobile operators to offload traffic inside residential buildings.

With a mix of indoor low-power operations over the full 1,200 megahertz in the 6 GHz band, the FCC has unleashed a powerful alternative to accelerate broadband penetration across the rural and remote areas of the country. An automated frequency coordination system will prevent standard- power access points from operating where they could cause interference to incumbent services. The development of the ecosystem to support very low-power devices to operate across the 6 GHz band to support high data rate applications including high-performance, wearable, augmented-reality and virtual-reality devices, also makes it a very attractive proposition. The ability to operate low-power indoor access points is likely to bring about a significant boost to inbuilding penetration.

With room for seven new 160MHz channels — and with no interference from previous-gen devices at all — the 6GHz band could potentially serve as a multilane superhighway for the latest Wi-Fi devices, all of them using the newest, fastest and most efficient version of Wi-Fi technologies
